To our Guards on Safety Alert Patrol and everyone committed to keeping our children safe — In a moment of unthinkable danger, one man ran toward the threat instead of away from it.


When a former student entered Pauls Valley High School armed and intending to carry out a Columbine-inspired attack, Principal Kirk Moore didn't hesitate. He charged straight at the gunman, tackled him in the school lobby, and helped subdue him — even after being shot in the leg during the struggle. Thanks to his bravery and quick action (along with other staff), no students or additional staff were harmed.


This is what a true hero looks like: a leader who puts the lives of the children in his care above his own. He wasn't thinking about himself — he was thinking about protecting those kids.
